High-Pressure Laminate, i.e. HPL

HPL panels, i.e. high-pressure laminates are exterior and interior cladding panels in which the top layer consists of a laminate pressed onto a panel under high pressure. The extrusion process is carried out at a high temperature and pressure, which results in a durable board.

Surfaces can be treated according to environmental characteristics.

Durable finishing board

Scratch-Resistant and Strong!

High-pressure laminates (HPL) are incredibly durable, scratch-resistant, and lightweight, making them a popular choice for both interior and exterior façades.

Surfaces can be customized based on environmental requirements, with options for UV protection, antibacterial protection, anti-fingerprint coating, chemical resistance, and more.

HPL is suitable for a wide range of applications, including residential, commercial, and public buildings, as well as offices, banks, sports halls, stadiums, airports, hospitals, balconies, and many other structures.

Advantages of HPL Boards

  • Weather Resistance
Gentas HPL exterior tiles (UV+ and G-EXT) are highly resistant to harsh weather conditions, including direct sunlight, rain, acid rain, wind, and abrasion.
  • Easy to Work With
Can be easily processed (sawn, milled, perforated).
Enables creating decorative patterns on façades using perforation without drilling through the material (only the laminate surface needs to be patterned).
  • Wide Range of Applications
Suitable for façades, laboratories, X-ray rooms, floors, terraces, furniture, school boards, kitchen countertops, and more.
  • Durable Alternative to Natural Materials
Replaces natural materials that are not weather-resistant, offering a highly durable yet visually similar solution.
  • Extensive Color Options
Wide range of colors and special finishes, including wood, stone, and metal textures.
  • Bendable and Curved Elements
Can be shaped to create curved or arched elements.
  • Large Panels
Can be installed as large single panels for a seamless look.

Unique EBC Surface Treatment

The GENTAS G-Ext laminate surface can be enhanced with a special EBC (Electron Beam Cure) surface treatment, a cutting-edge technology used by only a few companies worldwide. This advanced process provides exceptional scratch resistance, ensures long-lasting vibrancy of colors, and enables structural finishes.
Moreover, EBC technology allows for the creation of curved elements directly at the factory, offering greater design flexibility and precision.

Hestia Hotel

In late 2019, the Hestia Hotel Kentmanni opened its doors in the former courthouse on Kentmanni Street, Tallinn. This transformation introduced 92 hotel rooms, a restaurant, a spa, and a gym, replacing the previous judicial offices. The hotel is part of the Hestia Hotel Group, marking the tenth property in their portfolio.

The exterior of the building features brown GENTAS G-Wood high-pressure laminate (HPL) panels with a wood imitation finish. The panels have been precision-cut to create the appearance of a boarded façade. They are securely mounted onto an anodized aluminum frame using the SikaTack system, ensuring both durability and aesthetic appeal.

Frequently asked questions

HPL tiles can be fixed:

  • Anchor FixingsSecured using anchors for a strong and durable attachment
  • Adhesive BondingRequires the installation of an aluminum frame and should be carried out in warmer conditions. The installer must be experienced and, preferably, trained in appropriate methods
  • Through-Fixing

Specific requirements for through-fixing

  • Drill holes in each panel in advance for rivets or screws. (One hole (preferably in the center of the panel) must match the diameter of the fixing (e.g., if the rivet diameter is 4.8mm, the hole should be 5.0mm). All other holes should have a larger diameter to allow the panel to move during expansion, preventing warping.)
  • Joint gaps between panels: 8–10 mm
  • The distance of fixings from the edge must be at least 20mm. It is recommended to use a 20/50mm solution in the corners.

Different materials can be used for the base frame, but aluminum is the preferred choice due to its affordability, ease of machining, and durability (strong and corrosion-resistant). Stainless steel, painted steel, or even wood can be used if the structural requirements for the building frame are not very demanding. The choice of frame will determine the appropriate fixing solution.

When selecting the frame thickness, it’s crucial to ensure at least 20mm of air space between the tile and the base.

We can assist in selecting and designing the right frame and fastening solution based on the preferences of the building’s architect, client, and constructor, while considering the building’s budget, façade complexity, and exposure to weather. Additionally, we can help design the correct fixing sequences and methods and, if needed, provide training for installation teams.
